Sue Lederhose, nee Mollenhauer, was born in Murgon, Queensland, Australia. She was raised in a large family on a mixed dairy farm where
she developed an enduring love of country landscapes. Art was always her favourite subject at school, however teacher training,
work, business, marriage and five children left little time!
A decision was made in 2004 to make the time to learn watercolour painting. Watercolour attracted her because of the transparent
beauty and flow of the medium. It continues to intrigue and fascinate her because the water gives each painting a life of its own,
resulting in spontaniety and freshness.
Sue was able to attend several workshops,
otherwise she is self taught. She paints prolifically and has experimented in a large range of styles and subjects, all the while
developing her own unique blend. She mostly paints from her local area, including her flower garden, using strong colours and
contrasts.
Sue has had many early successes, with over 20 first prizes in the first 2 years. She was the recipient of the Mundubbera
Australia Day Cultural award in 2004.
Her first solo exhibition was in 2005 at Maryborough with two others the same year. Federal Member for Hinkler, Paul Neville
chose one landscape, for his 2006 Christmas calendar. Her work is already in collections in France, England, Canada, Japan
and Australia.
As a gifted teacher she is very happy to be able to pass on her knowledge to others and has already taught many watercolour
courses. She continues to teach on a regular basis in her hometown of Mundubbera.
Sue has put together some invaluable information for readers of this website. Art theory and common terms for watercolour is covered in-depth
on this page.
Sue is now being sought as an art judge. Her work is being exhibited by an increasing number of galleries in southern
Queensland.
She displays a readiness to learn and develop her skills and to pass on that learning to others. Her goal is to become a full time
professional artist. Sue is a committed Christian and balances the needs of her family and work with her love of painting.
